CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Saint Lucia Archaeological and Historical Society (ASHS) in joint collaboration are continuing with plans to host the upcoming Caribbean Ties Exhibition under the theme: A connected People Then and Now.
The exhibition will be launched on August 1, 2021, and hosted at the Anglican School Annex. A special opening ceremony will be held at Holy Trinity, commencing with a church service, the blessing and rededication of the building and the exhibition.
The school Annex is currently being prepared with the undertaking of initial repairs by our local contractor who is an Anglican. The repairs are being undertaken to enable a successful event.
The venue was selected by the SAHS because of the heritage value associated with the Holy Trinity Church and the Anglican cemetery established since the 1830 era; the St Mary the Virgin at La Caye, which recently celebrated one hundred years old, the School Annex Top School (1916). Thereafter, the parishioners will be invited to determine the future short term and long term use of the Annex.
Caribbean Ties exhibition features in part of the work related to “Project NEXUS 1492: Caribbean encounters in a Globalizing World of Leiden University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Konstanz University in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Archaeological and Historical Society, and presents part of the scientific results generated by the research project.
Caribbean Ties is a unique exhibition that presents the diversity and complexity that existed in the Caribbean before the arrival of Europeans, and that is still present today. The exhibition provides an opportunity to support the heritage and share in the cultural awareness with school children, local communities and visitors.
The exhibition is sponsored and supported by the Lieden University of the Netherlands, the Saint Lucia government, the ministry of tourism and the St Lucia Archaeological Society.
Several other agencies with like-minded interests ( the local private sector and NGO’s ) have also come on board to collaborate with the joint committee and have been conducting a series of planning meetings for the event.
