One Ton of Marijuana seized at the Peace Bridge

BUFFALO, USA – US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo seized more than a ton of marijuana in a commercial shipment.

On October 15, CBP officers assigned to the Peace Bridge selected a commercial shipment of 20 pallets for further examination. CBP officers then discovered 2,145 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana during the internal inspection of the pallets that weighed 2,410 lbs.

“Our CBP officers remain enforcement focused and driven and this latest large load marijuana seizure is proof of that”, said Port Director Jennifer De La O. “Their efforts have produced record-setting results for narcotics seizures within the Buffalo Field Office exemplifying their dedication to the CBP mission.”

It was also determined that the marijuana had an estimated street value of more than $8 million. This seizure adds to the steady increase in drug seizures within the Buffalo Field Office from October 1, 2019, through September 30, 2020. The Buffalo Field Office, which covers 16 ports of entry throughout New York State, made over 1,600 narcotic seizures totaling more than 42,000 pounds.

The seizure is currently being investigated by Special Agents with the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
