Dominican Republic to host Foromic 2019

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic – Foromic, the premier event in Latin America and the Caribbean on the issue of inclusion, will be held this in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, from October 30 to November 1, with the theme of “Reinventing Inclusion.” The forum is being organized by the IDB Group, led by IDB Lab, the group’s innovation laboratory.

Foromic focuses on how to reinvent inclusion through creative ideas based on digital solutions and new business models that have the potential to improve the lives of everyone. This event is the main platform for bringing together innovators and global and local actors seeking to solve the inclusion problems of Latin America and the Caribbean. Foromic provides a unique opportunity to learn about new trends, network, and do business in the area of inclusion.

This year’s edition will feature workshops on three areas: new finances, businesses undergoing transformation, and better lives.

In the area of finances, there will be discussions on regulating financial innovation, the role of financial technology in financial inclusion, the payment revolution, and the challenges posed by digital identity. In the business section of the forum, emphasis will be placed on creative economy issues, financing for innovators, innovations in farm technology (Agtech) and business opportunities in the blue economy connected to the sustainability of oceans’ coastal areas.

As for the issue of better lives, Foromic will address new approaches to the skills needed to prosper in a world shaped by the fourth industrial revolution — so-called 21st-century skills. It will also look at the transformation of urban life through innovation in basic services such as transport, water, sanitation, housing, and energy and the business opportunities that they generate.

This year at Foromic the transversal subjects will be sustainable tourism and resilience, digital transformation and gender issues, with special emphasis on the relevance of such issues in the Dominican Republic and other small or island nations. The forum will also give participants a chance to sample new technologies, such as augmented or virtual reality, and a space to get to know some of the IDB Group’s initiatives in areas touching on inclusion.

For two days the event will bring together financial institutions, businesses, and creative and innovative people from throughout the region who will analyze how innovation, driven by emerging technologies and cutting-edge business models, is transforming inclusion in financial services, entrepreneurship and the future of work.
