OAS Observation Mission deploys across Colombia ahead of presidential runoff election

BOGOTA, Colombia – The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Colombia, led by former president of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernández, has begun its deployment across the country ahead of the presidential runoff election scheduled for June 21.

Composed of 95 observers and specialists from 22 countries, the Mission will be present in 26 departments and the Capital District, as well as in five cities abroad—Barcelona, Madrid, New York, Miami, and Washington, DC—where it will also observe the electoral process for Colombian citizens residing overseas.

The Mission will continue the work carried out during the first round and will observe various aspects of the electoral process, including electoral organisation and logistics, voting abroad, electoral technology, political financing, electoral justice, electoral violence, as well as campaigns, media coverage, and digital communications.

Following election day, the Mission will present a report containing its observations and recommendations. This is the twenty-sixth (26th) Electoral Observation Mission deployed by the OAS in Colombia and is made possible through the financial support of Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States, France, and Italy.
