Latin America – The Caribbean to attend the ninth meeting of the Regional Forum – Achieving the 2030 Agenda

SANTIAGO, Chile – The ninth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will be held at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, from April 13 to 16, 2026, under the chairship of Peru. The objective of the meeting is to review progress and challenges in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the region.

With only four years remaining until the deadline set for the implementation of the global agenda, the meeting will feature a series of global, regional, and national action dialogues.

During the global action dialogues, to be held on Tuesday, April 14, senior officials from the United Nations and from governments across the region, together with other relevant stakeholders, will exchange views on the follow-up to international commitments adopted in 2025 at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (Seville, Spain), the Second World Summit for Social Development (Doha, Qatar), and the thirtieth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Belém do Pará, Brazil).

In addition, a session will be held on the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will take place from December 2 to 4, 2026, in the United Arab Emirates, and which is co-organized with Senegal. This crucial event aims to accelerate progress towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6)—water and sanitation for all—by 2030, by fostering political will, investment and innovation.

The regional action dialogues will begin on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 14, with the presentation of the ninth report on regional progress and challenges in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, delivered by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, executive secretary of ECLAC.

Representatives of countries, civil society, the private sector, and academia will have the opportunity to exchange experiences on progress in the implementation of SDG 6: Clean Water and SanitationSDG 7: Affordable and Clean EnergySDG 9: Industry, Innovation and InfrastructureSDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Meanwhile, during the National Action Dialogues, to be held on Thursday, April 16, two peer-learning sessions will be held: the first will focus on exchanging successful national experiences in order to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs, and the second will be aimed at sharing good practices and challenges in the preparation of the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) that countries will present in July at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in New York.

The global, regional, and national dialogues will bring together high-level representatives of the governments of the 33 countries of the region, as well as agencies, funds, and programmes of the United Nations system, UN resident coordinators in the region, international financial institutions, and development banks. Representatives of civil society, the parliamentary community, academia, and the private sector will also be in attendance, from countries of Latin America and the Caribbean as well as from other regions of the world.
