Brazil to host the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2025

BRASILIA, (IICA) – Brazil will host the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2025, where participants will discuss key issues for the present and future of the hemisphere’s agriculture sector and food security, focusing on science, technology and innovation in production transformation.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the government of Brazil will organize the event, which will take place in the country’s capital, Brasilia, from 3 to 5 November.

The Twenty-third Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA)—IICA’s highest governing body—will also take place during the meeting. The Board meets every two years.

Brazil was selected to host the event by the ministers of Agriculture attending the IABA meeting in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2023.

Minister of agriculture and livestock of Brazil, Carlos Fávaro, and IICA director general, Manuel Otero will preside over the opening of the meeting. Joining the ministers and senior officials of the agriculture sector of the 34th IICA member states will be other specially invited speakers, including Special Envoy for Agriculture to COP 30 and former minister of agriculture of Brazil, Roberto Rodrigues; and scientist Rattan Lal, who is considered to be the world’s leading authority on soil sciences.

The Conference will feature technical discussion forums, which will also include the participation of representatives of private sector companies and organisations.

Also on the agenda will be the election of the new IICA director-general for the 2026-2030 period, who will assume office in January of next year.
