PISLM reaffirmed efforts throughout the region at COTED meeting, Caribbean Week of Agriculture

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Newly appointed Executive Director for the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), Dr Ronen C. A Francis reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting sustainable land and soil management efforts throughout the region.

Dr Francis, who represented the organisation at the Council for Trade and Economic Development’s (COTED’s) main activities of the 19th Caribbean Week of Agriculture in St Kitts and Nevis, outlined key recommendations and landmark initiatives endorsed by the organisation’s ministerial council earlier this year.

Dr Francis presented the four major regional decisions and projects which were endorsed by the COTED. They included CSIDS–SOILCARE Phase II, The Caribbean Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Transformative Project, Caribbean Drought Initiative and the Caribbean Sand and Dust Storm Initiative.

The executive director also called for member states to increase investments in sustainable land management, drought resilience, and land degradation neutrality, appealing for enhanced regional knowledge sharing and integration of Land Degradation Neutrality targets into national development strategies.

The 19th Caribbean Week of Agriculture in St. Kitts and Nevis was — convened under the theme “Sowing Change, Harvesting Resilience: Transforming Our Caribbean Food Systems for 2025 and Beyond.”

  • The PISLM for CSIDS is the only independent IGO with a mandate to help Caribbean SIDS meet their obligations under the UNCCD and land and soil areas of the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA).
