On the 10th Anniversary of the Global Cooperation and Training Framework

By AIT

WASHINGTON, USA – The Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) was established by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) on June 1, 2015, to provide a platform through which Taiwan could contribute to international affairs and share its expertise while also enabling like-minded partners to address issues of mutual concern.

On the 10th anniversary of the GCTF, we celebrate its transformation into an effective mechanism that benefits the international community. Japan, Australia, and Canada joined as full partners in 2019, 2021, and 2024 respectively, demonstrating the growing recognition of the value that the framework adds to collaboration on global challenges.

Since 2015, over 87 workshops have been organized under the banner of the GCTF, attended by more than 10,000 government officials and experts from 133 countries. The GCTF franchise model, introduced in 2021, has further extended the reach of the initiative, with 24 events having been hosted in 17 countries worldwide.

At a time when Taiwan’s international participation remains constrained, the GCTF remains a vital platform for sharing Taiwan’s expertise, strengthening like-minded cooperation, and forging new partnerships to address common challenges.

To strengthen our partnership and expand the impact of the GCTF over the next decade, we endeavour to:

  • Enhance global recognition of the GCTF as a premier platform for multilateral collaboration with Taiwan;
  • Strengthen engagement with our growing network and welcome additional partners, co-hosts, and participants;
  • Explore new opportunities for deepening our engagements, including through longer-term programs and exchanges;
  • Establish additional formal cooperation mechanisms to support enhanced partner coordination and long-term platform growth.

As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to this vital platform. We look forward to maintaining and expanding this partnership in ways that benefit people around the world and contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.
