OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin on assuming office

WASHINGTON, USA – Today, with deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility and dedication, I begin my tenure as Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). I step into this role not as an individual, but as a committed servant of the peoples of the Americas. I am inspired by the diversity, resilience, and potential of our Hemisphere, and I am fully committed to helping build a future rooted in peace, security, prosperity, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Let us reimagine the calls and goals that created this Organization. This is a time that calls for unity and political will to strengthen our resolve. We must strengthen the ties between our nations, our institutions, and most importantly our people. We are stronger when we stand together. Together we can face the challenges of our time with clarity and courage.

My vision is to lead an OAS that is more responsive, inclusive, and effective. An organization that reflects the diversity and dynamism of our region and delivers tangible benefits for all. To achieve this, we must foster deeper collaboration among member states and actively engage all sectors of society: governments, civil society, indigenous communities, the private sector, and especially our youth.

I have no illusions this journey will be easy or swift. Real progress requires time, trust, and sustained effort. It will demand the best of all of us, and we will need the full support and engagement of our partners, stakeholders, and friends across the hemisphere. But I believe, deeply, that it is possible and that it is worth it.

Having served this institution for many years and in different capacities, I know firsthand the quality of the people who work here and the value we bring to our member states. The OAS matters. And we will tell our story with confidence and clarity, showing our relevance through action, our legitimacy through results.

As we embark on this new and exciting journey together, I am committed to building a stronger, more transparent, and results-driven OAS as envisioned by our member states, guided by shared values, grounded in cooperation, and focused on delivering for those we serve. Let us move forward together with determination, and hope for a more just, democratic, and united Americas.
