St Lucia’s Independence 46 – DOUVAN ANSANM

My Independence Message

This year of Independence 46 shouldn’t be politicians throwing sticks and bricks, but rather should highlight our enduring mix. Amerindians, Africans, Europeans, Indians – no useless racist conflicts.

Too many partisan bags of tricks and quick fix, Lucians must awaken from being transfix. Lucians must release a higher consciousness – no gimmicks.

After 46 years of Independence, most Saint Lucians still cannot comprehend that we the people are the masters and the politicians the servants. If we had grasped this simple but essential concept our Saint Lucia would have been more advanced.

The politicians would not be exercising ‘power – over’ but ‘power – with’. We would not be motivated by fear but be conscious of our pattern of relationships and freely express ourselves by advocating for the community; sharing valuable information, recommending projects, demanding accountability and transparency and valuing our dependency on each other (as was elemental in our koudmen).

I appeal to all sons and daughters of Iyanola to give consideration to this puissance observation of Mark Twain:

“The government is merely a servant – merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them …”

Let’s come to terms with this and in our actions demonstrate that we have a clear understanding of our responsibilities as conscious citizens.

Harry Browne reminds us that:

“It’s important to realise that whenever you give power to politicians or bureaucrats; it will be used for what they want, not for what you want.” Regardless what party or politician you support, let’s commune for peace and the welfare of all. That is in essence “Douvan Ansanm.”

Will we ever get there? Get to that understanding herein postulated? Sure we can, but mental slavery poses a challenge.

Respect All. Celebrate.
