ILO – Norway renew their partnership

GENEVA, Switzerland, (ILO News) – The agreement is a new phase of a long-standing partnership between the ILO and the government of Norway on skills development. For the last six years, the collaboration has enabled support to selected countries to develop, upscale and institutionalise approaches such as private sector-led governance structures and innovative skills anticipation, training and assessments.

The government of Norway is contributing to the ILO’s Global Skills Programme, a pooled funding mechanism to operationalize the ILO’s Skills and Lifelong Strategy and offer innovative and high-quality services to countries, ILO constituents, and the global skills development community to support their green and digital transitions.

The Global Skills Programme is managed out of the new ILO Skills Hub in Africa and will act as a support facility for country components. The global and regional components in Africa will focus on enhanced knowledge exchange and management, peer-to-peer learning, state-of-the-art knowledge products, innovation, and visibility. Activities will strengthen partnerships and collaboration between skills development actors on the continent and build capacity on skills governance, apprenticeships, skills recognition, and skills excellence in partnership with the private sector.

The country components will support skills development and lifelong learning of vulnerable persons in key sectors such as agro-processing, tourism, textile, and the information and communication technology (ICT) sector to successfully transition to the labour market in several countries, including Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, and Tanzania.

The Norway-ILO partnership will continue to support constituents by providing technical expertise, building capacity, and supporting them in implementing pilot programmes, with particular attention given to vulnerable groups.
