Russia launches international internship programme for energy professionals from ASEAN countries

MOSCOW, Russia – The International Energy Economics Programme “Changing Energy Landscape: New Energy Roads and Global Carbon Neutrality” is an initiative of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, based on the collective energy security platform for Russia and Southeast Asia.

The main operator of the programme is the St Petersburg State University of Economics (SPbSUE) with the support of A.M. Gorchakov Foundation (InteRussia internship programme) and organisational participation of the Russian Energy Agency (REA) of the Russian ministry of energy and PJSC GAZPROM.

Programme goals are:

– Expanding Russia’s economic and scientific-technological ties with ASEAN countries.

– Creating conditions for the development of energy dialogue, professional exchange.

– Establishing business contacts between stakeholders to further organise project activities.

In the context of the global transformation of the global energy architecture, Russian fuel and energy companies have an opportunity to become a factor of energy stability and security for the ASEAN countries. The significant competencies of Russian companies allow them to participate both in oil and gas exploration and development and in major infrastructure projects, including LNG expansion, nuclear power, hydropower, and renewable energy development.

The course includes traditional lectures and seminars, case analyses, meetings with leading experts and heads of departments, visits to energy infrastructure facilities and a rich cultural programme.

During the course, participants will analyse global energy trends, look at examples of international energy cooperation, co-optation and competition. The internship will discuss the causes and consequences of energy price dynamics and address issues of carbon dioxide emissions reduction (decarbonisation). The focus will be on international energy security, current and long-term trends in global energy markets, the Russian oil and gas sector in the international context, the strategy for a low-carbon economy in Russia, the growing role of China and new transport corridors in Central Asia, and key issues in Russia-ASEAN energy relations.

The discussion of the new global energy architecture makes this programme one of the most significant educational projects in the field of global energy.

Participants in the programme are specialists from energy companies, leading industry business associations and research centres in ASEAN countries.
The programme will be held in August 2023 in St Petersburg and Moscow. The language of the training programme is English.
