Rio de Janeiro to host G20 Summit 2024

BRASILIA, Brazil, (TV BRICS) – Rio de Janeiro has been chosen to host the G20 summit next year. Brazil had already been announced as the host country for 2024 at the 2021 meeting in Rome, however, it was not yet known which city it would be.

The choice was widely celebrated by Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes and Governor Claudio Castro, as reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

“All this is being made possible thanks to the efforts and commitment we are having to promote Rio de Janeiro to the world. This meeting is a milestone in our history,” said Claudio Castro.

In 2022, the summit was held in Bali, Indonesia and this year it will be held in New Delhi, India in September, marking the 18th edition of the event.

The Group of 20, known as G20, is an organisation that brings together the economy ministers and central bank presidents of 19 countries and the European Union. Together, these nations represent around 80 percent of the entire global economy.

The 2024 meeting will have 20 members of the group, as well as ten guest nations, including Paraguay and Uruguay, which are part of Mercosur along with Brazil and Argentina.

In December, Brazil will assume the rotating presidency of the G20, currently held by India.
