Taiwan is open for tourism, trade and investment: Part 2

By Caribbean News Global fav

TORONTO, Canada – Taiwan’s ‘open-door policy’ building consensus around four commitments is a reminder of a free and democratic country – recognizing the need for increased partnership in economic development – tourism, trade and investment – within the legislative norms of free trade, and the mechanism of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Furthermore, an increase in partnership and investment will increase opportunities for Taiwan to benefit directly, from its ‘six core strategic industries, build on the five-plus-two innovative industries program, creating more job opportunities and upholding economic growth momentum.’

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is preparing to reopen its Taipei Representative Office in Ivory Coast, with a population of approximately 26 million people, and the fastest-growing economy in Africa. Taiwan’s trade office in Nigeria and its representative office in France is strategic to the diplomatic support of Eswatini.

The government of Taiwan has decided to establish the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO in Montreal), in the Canadian province of Quebec – “to provide better services to overseas compatriots. And building on the excellent existing foundation, will contribute to further deepening reciprocal and mutually beneficial cooperation between Taiwan and Canada in multiple domains, strengthening people-to-people friendships, and jointly forging a prosperous Indo-Pacific.”

“Canada is a bilingual country, with English and French as its official languages. Its French-speaking population mainly lives in Quebec, a province that accounts for nearly a quarter of Canada’s total population. Montreal is the largest city in Quebec, the second-largest city in Canada, and a key Francophone city in Canada and North America. It is widely known as a Canadian hub for technology industry clusters, which points to significant room for cooperation in such areas as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. Montreal is also home to the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization and hosts missions from the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, and other countries.”

Sustainable economic growth is indispensable to the challenges of the international rules-based order.

This rings true to Taiwan’s forward thrust towards tourism, trade and investment. This also reaffirms the government prioritizing stability in the Taiwan Strait, and the need to reiterate the firm commitment to the rule of law, freedom of movement, security and prosperity, climate change and digital connectivity.

With improved COVID-19 regulations and border controls, increased travel revenue from Air passenger businesses reporting higher revenue, with plans to increase flights within and outside Asia. Improved passenger flight business formulates well for China Airlines Ltd and EVA Airways Corp, both enterprises of Taiwan.

Recently, Four Seasons announced the construction of the new Hotel in Taiwan, a striking 31-storey tower directly opposite the iconic Taipei 101 landmark, is already underway, and is anticipated to be complete in a few years’ time. Bart Carnahan, president, global business development and portfolio management, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, said:

“This project will be a destination of choice in Taipei for both locals and travellers, combining thoughtful design, world-class restaurants and bars, and of course personalized service by incredible Four Seasons people.”

This tides with the interest to visit Taiwan, the opportunity for Taiwanese products, tourism, trade and investment – conducive to a united front vs ideological rhetoric; a key part of engagement in the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS). Understanding true policy mix – [responsible policies, measures and solutions ] is an amicable expansion in promoting cross-strait relations, global stability and the socio-economic advancement of Taiwan’s 14 allies.

International trade, export promotion, and economic development are key initiatives to engage with international partners and business leaders on Taiwan’s’ priorities, strengthening trade and investment relationships in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

Taiwan is optimistic about economic development, revenue growth and foreign investment. Human capital remains a focus, and a more investment-friendly regulator environment to address its global geo-political positions, this year and beyond.

“As the 21st largest economy in the world and the 10th largest goods trading partner of the United States, Taiwan deserves a seat at the IMF,” said US Representative Young Kim (CA-40), who introduced the Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 540) with Rep. Al Green (TX-09) to support Taiwan’s participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Taiwan’s governance is quality assurance, demonstrated by results, over the years. Irrespective of non-membership in World Health Organization (WHO) and World Health Assembly (WHA), Taiwan’s superior health care and technologies, provided solutions to global health and pandemic issues.

Taiwan’s participation in the World Trade Organization (WTO) is another prominent issue that is overdue and needs to be addressed, potentially affecting Taiwan’s foreign trade.

However, the discernment to shoulder responsibility and global attention is no stranger to Taiwan’s fundamental democratic resolve and responsive policy measures.

Taiwan’s assurance and resolve towards tourism, trade and investment has a huge transition to impact on every level. Taiwan is on the right path to global transition.
