Governments nominate five candidates for IDB presidency

WASHINGTON, USA – The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) member countries have proposed five candidates for the position of president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The nomination period closed on Friday, November 11, 2022.

  • Cecilia Todesca Bocco was nominated by Argentina
  • Gerard Johnson was nominated by Trinidad and Tobago
  • Gerardo Esquivel Hernández was nominated by Mexico
  • Ilan Goldfajn was nominated by Brazil
  • Nicolás Eyzaguirre Guzmán was nominated by Chile

The IDB’s Governors, who are usually finance ministers or other high-ranking economic authorities from the bank’s 48 member countries, will have the opportunity to interview the candidates at a virtual meeting on November 13, 2022.

The election is set to take place at a hybrid meeting of the board of governors on November 20, 2022.
