HAVANA, Cuba, (WAM) – Bader Abdulla bin Saeed Al Matrooshi, UAE ambassador to Cuba and UAE Representative at the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), has met with Rodolfo Sabonge, ACS Secretary-General, where they expressed continued progress in the relations between the UAE, Caribbean and regional organisations.

Furthermore, they noted that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, cooperation was growing at a steady pace.

Al Matrooshi highlighted a number of joint projects between the UAE and ACS, including renewable energy projects that have been completed through the UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Among these projects was a symposium organised with the ACS and DP World, through which best practices and lessons learned were highlighted in the transport and marine services sectors.

Sabonge lauded the UAE’s efforts at the global and regional levels in the Caribbean and its focus on partnerships that serve the priorities of societies, especially projects in the areas of sustainability, renewable energy and development.

He invited the UAE to participate in the ACS International Cooperation Conference in November 2022. Moreover, he praised the UAE for hosting him at Expo 2020 Dubai and expressed his appreciation for the high-level organisation of the event, and exceptional achievements of all participants.

The meeting was attended by ACS department directors, ambassadors of member states and observers of the Association, as well as a number of officials and specialists.
