New ambassador of Ecuador to the OAS presents credentials

WASHINGTON, USA – The new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Mauricio Montalvo, presented his credentials today to the secretary-general of the OAS, Luis Almagro, in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

Secretary-General Almagro highlighted the role played by Ecuador in favor of the fundamental pillars of the OAS: democracy, human rights, integral development, and multidimensional security. “Ecuador, a founding country of the OAS, has been a very important partner when it comes to defending the values and principles of the inter-American system. Ambassador Montalvo, welcome to this House of the Americas that you know very well,” added secretary-general Almagro.

For his part, ambassador Montalvo ratified his country’s adherence to the “fundamental principles” of the OAS. “It is an honor to have received from the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, the task of representing my country before the OAS, the multilateral organization par excellence in the hemisphere, without a doubt the most emblematic forum in the region, with the added value of being the oldest intergovernmental organization in the world”.

Ambassador Montalvo has had a 40-year diplomatic career. His first assignment abroad was as Second Secretary of the Mission of Ecuador to the OAS.
