Belize receives donation from Taiwan government

BELMOPAN, Belize – The ministry of health and wellness received a donation of equipment and materials from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Monday, April 11, 2022.

The donation included 70 wheelchairs for children, 52 commodes (toilet chairs), 76 walkers, 160 aluminum canes, 200 foldable canes, 60 canes for the visually impaired, 120 axillary crutches, 80 forearm crutches, and 40 polio crutches provided by Puh Sein and Cao Zhong Zhi foundations of Taiwan. Additionally, 20,000 isolation gowns and 400 face shields offered by the SimplyHelp Foundation, which was founded by a member of the Taiwanese community in the United States. The donation is valued at approximately BZ$100,000.

H.E. David Kuan-Chou Chien, ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, handed over the equipment to Kevin Bernard, minister of health and wellness. The minister graciously accepted the equipment and materials that will be distributed to health facilities countrywide.

The government of Belize extends its appreciation to the people and the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continuous support and commitment to public health.

Furthermore, the government of Belize reiterates its full support for Taiwan’s participation in all meetings, activities, and mechanisms of the World Health Organization (WHO) and calls for the WHO to invite Taiwan to join the 75th World Health Assembly from May 22 – 28, 2022.
