Latin America – Caribbean will have their space at the World Summit on Disability

PANAMA, PANAMA CITY – The Satellite Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on February 10, 2022, in virtual format, in the framework of the Global Disability Summit.

The goal is to identify progress and best practices in the field of the rights of persons with disabilities; promote the formulation of specific and concrete commitments on human rights, disability and inclusive development in the region; enhance global, regional and national attention to achieve sustainable inclusive development and strengthen the capacity of organizations of persons with disabilities in developing countries, among others.

Currently, according to World Bank figures, approximately 85 million people with disabilities live in Latin America and the Caribbean. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected the access of persons with disabilities to health, education, work, and the economy. The 2022 Satellite Summit on Disability seeks to reinforce the call to States to commit to a more inclusive world and assume the commitment of inclusion of persons with disabilities.

This event is organized by the government of Panama, the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities of the Organization of American States (CEDDIS-OAS), the Department of Social Inclusion of the OAS, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Latin American Network of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their Families (RIADIS) and the ONCE Social Group.

Individuals, organizations or institutions interested in participating can register here. More information on the World Summit on Disability is available here.
