Avelo Airlines joins TSA PreCheck

WASHINGTON, USA – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today the expansion of its TSA PreCheck® expedited screening program with the addition of Avelo Airlines, adding to the more than 80 TSA PreCheck participating domestic and international carriers.

Avelo, with bases at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank Airport and Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport, offers non-stop flights to popular smaller and more convenient airport destinations that include wine regions, national parks, and cultural centers throughout the Mountain and Pacific time zones and sunny vacation destinations across Florida.

TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that enables low-risk travelers to enjoy a smart and efficient screening experience at more than 200 US airports. Travel with ease by enrolling in TSA PreCheck and avoid removing shoes, belts, liquids, food items, laptops and light jackets. In November, 94 percent of all TSA PreCheck members waited less than five minutes.

TSA PreCheck is available for eligible passengers when departing from a US airport, including when connecting on domestic flights after returning to the United States. Travelers who are US citizens, US nationals and US lawful permanent residents can apply for TSA PreCheck for a cost of $85 for a five-year membership.

Once approved, travelers receive a unique “Known Traveler Number” (KTN) that, when added to an airline reservation, makes them eligible to use TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints nationwide when traveling. Most new enrollees receive a KTN within three to five days.

Passengers who are members of other DHS Trusted Traveler Programs – Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI –  may be eligible for TSA PreCheck screening. To find the program that best suits your travel needs, use the Department of Homeland Security trusted traveler comparison tool. TSA PreCheck is also available at no cost for US Armed Forces service members, including those serving in the US Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard.

Enrolled airline passengers should look for the TSA Pre✓® indicator (such as TSAPRECHK, TSA PRE, or TSA Pre✓®) on their boarding pass to know if they are eligible for TSA PreCheck screening before their flight.

To keep enjoying TSA PreCheck benefits, individuals may renew up to six months before their membership expiration date. For most members, renewal is easy and may be completed online.
