BVI pledges cooperation at overseas territories finance minister meeting

By Government of the British Virgin Islands

British Virgin Islands, (BVI) – Premier and minister of finance Andrew A. Fahie led a British Virgin Islands (BVI) delegation at a virtual meeting of Overseas Territories (OT) finance ministers on  July 26, 2021.

Among other things, finance ministers and government officials discussed recent developments on international tax reform and broader shifts in the global financial system and world economy.

They also highlighted the importance of the OTs working closely together as jurisdictions on issues of critical importance.

Speaking on the outcome of the OT finance ministers meeting, premier Fahie said: “Our meeting was very constructive and demonstrated our solidarity as OTs. It is in the interest of the BVI and other territories to cooperate as the international environment in which our jurisdictions operate continues to change. We can benefit from each other’s strengths. My administration will remain engaged with our OT colleagues with whom we enjoy a good working relationship.”

The OTs represented at the virtual meeting were Anguilla, Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands and Saint Helena.

Premier Fahie was joined by financial secretary Jeremiah Frett, executive director of international business Lisa Penn-Lettsome, director of the international affairs secretariat Najan Christopher, director of the BVI London Office Tracy Bradshaw, assistant secretary for external affairs Dwynel Davis and special envoy of the premier Benito Wheatley.
