Castries Central MP has a fuzzy memory

Dear Sir

I couldn’t but chuckle to browse at a recent news article … Now is not the time to changein reference to Castries Central MP, Sarah Flood-Beaubrun.

My recourse referenced the sign of a fuzzy memory or perhaps the reassurance “You’re never too old to learn something stupid”; line 24 out of 52 “Paraprosdokian Sentences.”

The nucleus of Sarah Flood-Beaubrun message as reported in the article illustrates ‘humour for dramatic effect’: “Thursday night urged voters in her constituency to maintain the status quo at the next general elections.”

“Paraprosdokian Sentences” 6 and 7, says: “Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.” And “Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.”

During an appearance on Flambeau Forum, Flood-Beaubrun asserted: “People of Castries Central, now is not the time to change. Now is the time to give the United Workers Party (UWP) a mandate – a new mandate, a fresh mandate.”

But wait for it. In the artificial being of the so-called foreign minister, she reportedly declared that the true test of leadership is not in good times, but in hard times. Intuitively, she discerned that: “We have faced what we can liken to the Third World War with the COVID pandemic.”

Moving on, Flood-Beaubrun explained: “This is not about trying a ting.” To which I contrasted line (50): “If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.” However, to my mind, she backed peddled right into line (49) “We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.”

Flood-Beaubrun stated: “It is about recognising that in these turbulent waters, the ship has been steered – the captain is focussed. The captain has his hand on the wheel and he is in control of that ship,” she emphasised. “I am so proud to serve under such a leader,” Flood-Beaubrun alluding to prime minister, Allen Chastanet.

Audaciously the MP/foreign minister is intangible to her surroundings and the knowledge to decipher – the lowest of prime ministers, in any category of significance.

The article remitted that: “ She also said she was proud to serve in a party that does not ‘tokenise’ women, values every citizen, acknowledges the dignity of the human person and looks after everyone.” And “ the Castries Central MP expressed the view that now’s the time to give the ruling party a fresh mandate to continue the work it is doing.”

Not being a 43 percenter and low-level political receptor, the signals that may be integrated here is found in line (38) “Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.”

But also consider line (36): “Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.”

Absent yellow vision of a UWP, the obvious is true to claims that: “Our party is strong – our party is committed. But we need to win each and every seat and like in all elections, Castries Central needs to come home first,” the MP stated.

However, what struck me is the line “Let’s create history again – we have done it many times.”

Perhaps that’s a true confession not knowing which Priest or Bishop would receive that admission and subsequent absolution, with perhaps three Hail Mary’s, One Our Father, and One, I believe in God!

On the other hand, as seen in many eye’s from a cursory view of the landscape of Saint Lucia, and perhaps absent the Financial Intelligence Authority, are the many unanswered claims of corruption, nepotism, money laundering, unaccounted wealth and a party/administration, more in keeping with an infamous tagline “Wanted”.
