RESTORE Belize launches online workshop on Trauma-Informed Care

BELMOPAN, Belize – RESTORE Belize will be offering an online capacity-building workshop from June 22 to July 9, 2021, titled ‘Trauma-informed care in a time of COVID-19: Promoting healing in Health, Human Services, and Community Organizations.’

The workshop seeks to increase service providers’ knowledge, skills, and strategies to provide trauma-responsive and empathetic care and support to children, young people and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Service providers/duty bearers will develop an understanding of the concept of psychological trauma and chronic stress in Belize and its effects on children, young people, and families, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Service providers will learn how to use a ‘trauma lens’ in their work with their clients, apply the trauma-informed care framework to avoid re-traumatization, and provide responsive and compassionate trauma-informed service provision.

For the past three years, RESTORE Belize has been working with schools in  Belize City to build capacity in trauma-informed practices in school and is now extending its reach to other social partners. Civil society organizations including the CSO-Hub Belize, Belize Family Life Association, the Belmopan Active Youth and the Belize Youth Counselling and Wellness Services of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and E-governance will undertake the training.
