CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Saint Lucia-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) expresses our deepest condolences to Taiwan ambassador Peter Chen over the death of 54 Taiwanese in a fatal Good Friday (April 2) railway disaster that also left some 200 injured.
The association shares in the grief of the families of the deceased, many of who were heading home for weekend holidays, and asks that the ambassador convey our sorrow to the affected relatives.
The SLCFA also joins Saint Lucians and Chinese everywhere in sharing the hope that those injured will recover soon enough and that those left to mourn will manage their sorrows effectively enough to ease their pains.
The SLCFA also believes that every life everywhere is worth living and every life lost is one too many.

Taipei, April 6 (CNA) – The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) has deduced that the fatal collision between a Taroko express train and a crane truck on April 2 occurred less than two minutes after the truck fell onto the track near the entrance to the Qingshui Tunnel in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan.
The organization, which is independent of the government, announced at a presentation in Taipei Tuesday the findings of its investigation into the accident that killed 50 people and injured over 200.
Its results were based on data and video chips retrieved from the train’s drive recorder and its automatic protection and control and management systems.
