WASHINGTON, USA – Acting Secretary of Homeland Security David Pekoske issued a National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) bulletin Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after consultation with the intelligence community and law enforcement partners “due to a heightened threat environment across the United States, which DHS believes will persist in the weeks following the successful presidential Inauguration.”
The use of a bulletin usually points to current developments and/or general trends regarding threats of terrorism. It is also used to warn of credible or impending terrorism threats.
“Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence,” the bulletin reads.
DHS bulleting advised that “there is currently a heightened threat environment across the United States that is likely to persist over the coming weeks.”
The bulleting concluded that “DHS does not have any information to indicate a specific, credible plot; however, violent riots have continued in recent days and we remain concerned that individuals frustrated with the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances and ideological causes fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize a broad range of ideologically-motivated actors to incite or commit violence.”
