WASHINGTON, USA – The general secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the framework off its tasks of seeking peace and well-being for the peoples of the Americas and its pillars of democracy, human rights, integral development and multidimensional security, has been following and working arduously in the context of the catastrophe generated by the Tropical Storm Eta in Central America.
In this regard, the general secretariat once again regrets the overwhelming human and material losses in the countries of Central America.
The general secretariat has activated the OAS Emergency Fund for calamities of this nature for affected countries that have requested it.
Likewise, the general secretariat reiterates its willingness to cooperate in coordination and in all those aspects that may be necessary, while adopting the declaration of emergency for the affected countries of Central America.
Accordingly, the general secretariat invites the countries of the Hemisphere and the international community, as well as regional and international financial institutions, to join forces to assist the countries affected by the results of the climate catastrophe and in the reconstruction needed.
