St Lucia extends State of Emergency: General elections expected

By Caribbean News Global fav

CASTRIES, St Lucia – The government of Saint Lucia earlier proclamation that the island is open for business June 4, regardless of the ramifications of going back to business as usual with a twisted “onclave tourism” has likewise authorized the State of Emergency will be extended to September 30, 2020.

“It is necessary to further extend for an additional period commencing from the 1st day of June, 2020 and ending on the 30th day of September, 2020, in accordance with section 17(6) of the Constitution of Saint Lucia, Cap. 1.01, the Constitution of Saint Lucia  – Extension of Resolution of Parliament Approving Declaration of State of Emergency passed as Statutory Instrument, No. 60 of 2020 that extended the State of Emergency for an additional period commencing from the 27th day of April, 2020 and ending on the 31st day of May, 2020;”

Caribbean News Global (CNG) previously proffered based on intelligence networks that the government of Saint Lucia was modeling COVID-19 measures and the prospects of general elections in the footsteps of St Kitts and Nevis.

The similarities are reveling. St Kitts and Nevis extended its State of Emergency and called general elections June 5; presumptive of an advantageous position on the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) – NextGen SKN.

However, NextGen SKN is confident of election victory. “When we heard that the date for the elections is June 5, his enthusiastic response was, “The earlier the better. We are ready,” NextGen SKN team leader Dr Denzil Douglas said.

On receiving the “further extension of resolution of parliament approving declaration of State of Emergency, – CNG contacted the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) for comment, said,

“We anticipating general elections this year and preparation is well advanced for the eventuality. COVID-19 health and economic crisis extensively exposed the government mismanagement of the economy, and even when the assistance of cooperation by the opposition is offered, we are ignored. So, yes, the government is cornered, unable to negotiate its way out – not even with the banks, civil society, and their disenchanted supporters – looking to the SLP for a way-out of the Chastanet ‘colonialism’ mess. The SLP is the solution on the way forward and will change the adverse direction the country is under – the sooner the better.”

  1. 😂😂😂😂This man did nothing to stop us from getting billed every month; also he did nothing to help out with groceries and the cost of living, but my guy wants to extend this shit to September?😂😂😂😂😂 St.Lucia up for sale on ebay cuz its over 😂😂😂

    • J, all the food that was delivered to people across the island? How much did you put aside monthly to prepare for a crisis?

  2. Shame on this administration. not even the elderly citizens can point out an inch of assistance that this government rendered to them during this time of crisis. You people are so heartless. Remember what goes around comes around. I plead that this administration never control the affairs of this country effective the next election. You all should be “sentence” until eternity. What a shame. Right now, the concern is all about opening the country in the name of tourism. This administration has failed this country miserably. Shame shame shame, bunch of “crooks and robbers and money snatchers”.

  3. I am always surprised at the thought process of many. I am not St Lucian. However, I am impressed with how St Lucia has managed this crisis, The Health Sector, Government, and most citizens must take a bow. The reality is that the Caribbean Islands do not have the level of finances to sustain this crisis. Like most islands and countries where tourism is a vital contributor to the island’s GDP, The Government must put together a plan for recovery. Having reviewed St Lucia plan to reopen, anyone who is none political will agree that it is a solid plan. The challenge is to ensure implementation. Well done, PM.

  4. How difficult can it be to decipher fact from fiction. Why are people so gullible that they simply believe what is articulated by someone without questioning or doing the research?

  5. You not a St Lucian you do not know the plight of the people and why they are suffering so check your own and comment on your own country’s business.

  6. Mark hold your thought process please. No thank you for your endorsement. The mind bending ain’t gonna work this time. Bye, bye Markey.

  7. I as a native St.Lucian is totally convinced that the current administration is doing a great job with it’s economic plan to develop this island.
Suffice to say. The Allen Chastanet administration has also proved to the island and moreover the world that it’s quite capable of preparing and handling such pandemic crisis as COVID-19 with the 100% good results that is showing so far. Kudos to the current St.Lucian government.
