Renaissance: My commitment to the people of Antigua and Barbuda

    • Election Day, Thursday, April 30, 2026

By Gaston Browne

The future is on the Ballot. The general elections of 2026 will shape our country for the future.

They will determine whether Antigua and Barbuda continues its rise to higher levels of progress, security and prosperity, or whether our nation is put at risk by those whose record in government was marked by decline, hardship, weakened confidence and failed management.

My objective, as leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, is to continue working diligently, passionately and accountably to ensure that our country moves forward with confidence into a new and greater phase of national development. That is my commitment to all Antiguans and Barbudans, and to every person who has chosen to live, work, invest and build a future in our country.

We have already shown what Antigua and Barbuda can achieve under strong, experienced and disciplined leadership. When the COVID-19 pandemic threatened lives, livelihoods and national stability, this administration acted with firmness, balance and foresight. We protected jobs and incomes, kept public servants employed and paid, reopened the airport and the wider economy earlier than many others in the region, and guided the country through crisis with sound management and clear purpose.

We responded to hurricanes and other external shocks with resilience and determination, preserving stability and restoring growth. That record did not happen by chance. It was earned through experience, prudent management and leadership that acted decisively in the national interest.

Today, Antigua and Barbuda stands among the strongest-performing economies in the Caribbean.

Employment is at the highest level in our history. Opportunity has widened. Confidence has strengthened. Our country speaks with respect and influence in the international community, and our people have shown that even a small state can rise with courage, discipline and purpose.

But our work is not finished. The next stage of our journey is the Renaissance: a new era of national renewal, wider opportunity and shared prosperity. It is about building a stronger economy, safer communities, better housing, wider educational opportunity, modern infrastructure, stronger food security, deeper local ownership, and a nation in which progress is more widely shared among our people.

I want our young people to grow up believing in possibility, not despair. I want working families to feel more secure and more hopeful. I want the elderly and the vulnerable to know that they will not be left behind. I want every citizen and resident to live in a country that is cleaner, safer, stronger and more respected in the region and the world.

This is not a time for drift. It is not a time for failed prescriptions. It is a time for steady hands, clear judgment and proven leadership. The world is uncertain, and small states must be led with care, courage and competence. I believe the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has demonstrated those qualities, and I believe we are best equipped to lead the nation safely and successfully through the years ahead.

I also know that leadership must listen. No government is above the duty to hear the concerns of the people, to recognise where more must be done, and to work constantly to improve the daily lives of the nation. That is a duty I accept fully, and it is one I will continue to discharge with energy and seriousness.

So I place this manifesto before you not as a collection of promises, but as a covenant of purpose and a plan for the next great chapter of our national life.

I ask you to read it carefully. I ask you to judge it against our record. And I ask you to renew your trust in the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, so that together we may secure the future, deepen the progress we have begun, and carry our country forward into the Renaissance.

With faith in God, confidence in our people, and abiding love for Antigua and Barbuda, I ask for your support.
