CCJ president visits Barbados

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Justice Winston Anderson, president of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and Gabrielle Figaro-Jones, registrar and chief Marshal, are visiting the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member state of Barbados.

During the visit (15-20 January 2026), president Anderson will deliver the keynote address at the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute’s (CANARI’s) Partners Forum on climate justice in the Caribbean. Additionally, the delegation will also pay courtesy calls on key public officials, including Mia Mottley, SC, MP, prime minister; Justice Leslie Haynes, chief justice; and Ralph Thornes, KC, MO, leader of the opposition.

The visit forms part of the Court’s ongoing strategic initiative to engage national judiciaries and members of government as a means of strengthening regional stakeholder engagement in accordance with the CCJ’s Strategic Plan 2025-2032.

This visit aligns with the strategic priorities of Access to Justice and Regional Impact, with a focus on expanding access and strengthening regional legal collaboration, as well as Communication, Stakeholder Engagement, and Public Trust, aimed at enhancing transparency, building trust, and deepening regional relationships.

Since his inauguration in July 2025, president Anderson has paid courtesy calls on public officials in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in October 2025, including the president of Guyana, Chancellor (Ag) of the Judiciary, attorney general and minister of legal affairs, the secretary general of the Caribbean Community, and representatives of We Invest in Nationhood, A Partnership for National Unity and the Forward Guyana Movement.

In November 2025, president Anderson paid courtesy calls on the minister of justice of the Republic of Suriname, the president of the Court of Justice, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname.
